Northern Ireland is testing the potential of willow leaves to reduce methane emissions from livestock. Politicians and animal welfare organisations have blasted the Irish Government over a new trade deal that will see live pigs flown to China for breeding. Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue described the deal as “an important milestone” following years of negotiations between the two countries. Labour shortages in UK abattoirs have led to a Yorkshire farmer killing hundreds of piglets. Another farmer in Lincolnshire reported that she has 1,600 pigs on her farm that should have gone to slaughter already and described the crisis as the worst she has experienced in 35 years of farming.  Brexit and the Covid pandemic are being blamed for the labour shortages. Now farmers will have the option to complete their application for TB compensation under the On-Farm Market Valuation scheme online.
