Teagasc is re-opening the telephone helpline to assist with COVID-19 related queries for all farmers. The service provides farmers with advice on the range of issues that they may face as they continue to do their essential work in maintaining the food supply chain.  The service was initiated during the initial period of COVID-19 restrictions, and is now re-introduced as an extra support available to farmers during the current restrictions.…

The Government will allocate €1.5 billion from the carbon tax to a REPS-2 programme to encourage farmers to operate in a greener and most sustainable way. Speaking at Irish Farmers Association AGM yesterday (28 January), the Taoiseach discussed the challenges of the Climate Change crisis for the industry. Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue has written to the European Commission seeking a change to the Beef Emergency Aid Measure (BEAM) scheme dates. Ireland’s coronavirus lockdown will continue for another six weeks until 5 March after the Government decided to extend the current restrictions. The fifth year of the Sheep Welfare Scheme begins on 1 February, 2021 and is open for new entrants to sheep farming. Funding of €17 million has been secured to extend the scheme for a fifth year. Thirty new field officers are being recruited in a nationwide campaign to stop the Curlew from becoming extinct in Ireland. The Irish Bioenergy Association (IrBEA) met with Minister Eamon Ryan and discussed the potential for small-scale anaerobic digestion (AD) plants on Irish farms. The failure to achieve 2020 renewable energy targets was also acknowledged at the meeting. LSL News.
