Livestock, vintage vehicles, polo at Tinahely Agricultural Show

Tinahely Agricultural Show

The Tinahely Agricultural Society is preparing for an outstanding Tinahely Agricultural Show on Monday, 1 August, 2022, at Fairwood Park, Gorteen, Co. Wicklow.

Alongside livestock competitions, all the favourite attractions will return, including a craft village, a pet show, home industries, junior crafts, quilts, poultry, vintage, equestrian, pony games, funfair, polo cross, tractor pulling, bale throwing and entertainment.

Wicklow Vintage Club have ensured a great display of vintage vehicles over the years, and there will be a large number of other clubs who will support them at the event.

The Cattle Section continues to grow, featuring over 70 cattle classes catering for Friesians, Aubrac, Aberdeen Angus, Herefords, Shorthorns, Simmentals, Limousines, Charolais, Parthanaise, Belgian Blues, and Commercial cattle.

Sheep breeders are also catered for, and there will be up to 40 sheep classes – breeds include Wicklow Mountain or Cheviot, Jacob and Cross Breeds. The Texel, Charollais and Vendeens also get a showing, and this year sees the introduction of classes for Zwartbles.

The range of poultry exhibited at Tinahely Agricultural Show gives a real flavour of the extensive range of fowl to be found in this country. There will be a range of classes with everything from Bantams to Large Soft Feathered Males.

A craft village promises to be a treasure trove of quality, hand-made crafts and fine artwork with 30 talented craftspeople showcasing their handcrafted pieces. There will be also be demonstrations, such as wood-carving by Dave Walsh; macrame, knitting, and crochet at the Tinahely Craft Market Stall, and a paracord survival bracelet demonstration by Little Fox Creations. Plus, there will be book signings by children’s authors Benji Bennett and Jackie Burke.

The craft village marquee will promote original, handcrafted, and Irish made products. Judges will choose the ‘Best of Craft Village’ exhibits and awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners.

A Quilt Marquee attracts entries from all over Ireland. All quilts are hung and the marquee will be a riot of colour, design and skill.

Performers include Michael English and his band, Stuart Moyles, Stacy Breen and Theresa & The Stars – look forward to lots of dancing on a custom-made dancefloor.
