National Gallery artists’ deadline looms

The National Gallery of Ireland hosts an annual contemporary portraiture competition open to artists from across Ireland as well as Irish artists living abroad. The deadline for submission of entries for the Zurich Portrait Prize is Wednesday, 22 June, 2022, at midnight (IST).

The winner of the National Gallery competition will receive a cash prize of €15,000 and will be commissioned to create a work for the National Portrait Collection, for which they will be awarded a further €5,000. Two additional awards of €1,500 will be given to highly commended works.

An exhibition featuring a shortlist of portraits chosen by the 2022 judging panel will go on display in the Gallery from 26 November 2022 to 2 April 2023. The exhibition will then travel to the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, where it will be displayed from 3 June to 2 September 2023.

Entry is limited to one portrait per artist. The submitted portrait must have been started after 22 June, 2019 and completed by 22 June, 2022.
