Come farm with me – Anna Truesdale

Anna Truesdale

Ulster Farmers’ Union member Anna Truesdale has built up a substantial social media following since she started posting about daily life on her dairy and sheep farm in Northern Ireland.

You can watch her dog, Izzy, “who knows silage is going to be dear this winter” and supervises proceedings to ensure she gets to use “every blade of grass grown on the farm this year” and see footage of Anna’s work during the very busy silage season. She does little talking in her latest clip, saying: “A very good silage video should be some fun tractor shots and funky music”.

“It just takes a bit of sunshine to remind me I’m one of the luckiest gals in the world. Cut grass, good craic, and a long day’s work. Grateful for it all!” she said.

Her day starts and ends milking pedigree Castletru Holsteins, which calve all year round except for June and July.

On World Milk Day, held this year on 1 June, 2022, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine celebrated dairy farmers who work tirelessly all year round to ensure families have nutritious and sustainable milk and dairy. “Thanks to our grass-based family farming system, our dairy industry has one of the highest reputations for quality products,” they said.
