This year’s calf registrations have passed the two-million mark as calving season draws to a close.

According to the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF), some 2,012,245 calves were registered as of 17 June, 2022. This is up ever so slightly by 3,987 calf registrations when compared with the same date in 2021. “When we look closer we can see that beef births are actually on the decline with over 21,000 fewer calves registered up to 17 June this year when compared with the same period last year,” they stated.

Dairy births are a different story with over 25,000 more dairy calves registered up to 17 June when compared with the same period in 2021. Pedigree registrations are ever so slightly up by 330 when compared to the same period year on year.

ICBF updates their stats every Friday. You can check out their weekly stats page by clicking on ‘Publications’ – ‘Statistics’ from their main website menu or by clicking the link: Here
