Food Vision Group to be set-up focusing on beef and sheepmeat

Farmers may soon breathe a sigh of relief as the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue has announced that a Food Vision Group for beef and sheepmeat will be established next month. The announcement was delivered at the second Food Vision 2030 committee meeting held earlier this week.

Discussing various strategies at the meeting was key, with the Minister stating that there are increasing ambitions in terms of organic farming and forestry, due to their environmental value.

Food Vision is a landmark for the Irish agri-food sector with the potential to transform our agriculture, food, forestry and marine sectors in the period to 2030 – with sustainability at its core, says the Minister. In maintaining clarity about the initiative, the group will be looking at market access and development which are a priority for post-Brexit diversification under the Food Vision strategy.

The goal of the group is to grow Ireland’s share in existing markets while developing new ones for all produced food. A recent example of this was a recent trade mission to the Gulf Region, led by Minister McConalogue, focused on growing trade with the region. With positive results following the visit, an agreement in principle was reached in order to lift restrictions on Irish beef exports to Saudi Arabia.
