One of Team Ireland’s first Olympic medals coming home to dairy farm

IFU calls on processors to increase milk prices
Dairy processors – including co-ops – are being encouraged to increase milk prices to match market prices by the Irish Farmers Association (IFU). Farmers worry about insurance as good weather attracts walkers to countryside
People getting out walking and using the countryside in the good weather have caused concern amongst farmers that they are not following the Countryside Code. Farmers are also worried that the increased activity on their land could result in them having to pay more to be indemnified. A fabulous south Wexford seaside farm has sold for €1.62 million at auction after reaching double the guide price. Nearly two thirds of male farmers are overweight new study reveals
Results of a Teagasc study have revealed that 62 per cent of Irish male farmers questioned were overweight or obese and a third were trying to slim down. Just over half of participants considered themselves ‘about the right weight’, but based on BMI calculations were overweight or obese.
