€5 billion Brexit fund agreed by MEPs
MEPs have overwhelmingly voted in favour of the €5 billion Brexit Adjustment Reserve with one fifth of the amount being allocated to Ireland. The European Parliament and the European Council agreed on the reserve fund which was supported by a majority of MEPs. The Department of Agriculture is considering phasing out the leasing of entitlements by introducing a ‘use them or lose’ them system. The plan would end the practice of ‘armchair’ farming and put entitlements in the hands of active and younger farmers. A new EU ruling outlining increased price reporting obligations on processors and retailers, has been welcomed by the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association (ICSA).
