Ireland’s Forest and woodland awards open

Farmers and woodland owners that have adopted climate-smart practices will be recognised with the RDS Irish Forest and Woodland Awards.

A prize fund of €9,000 is available with three prize categories open to farmers and landowners.

The Production Forestry category focuses on the use of silvicultural management on farms, with judges reviewing diversity of species including native trees to ensure greater efficiency.

Aiming to promote positive contribution, the Teagasc Farm Forestry Award recognises the environmental, social and economic benefits of integrating forestry and farming. The award also acknowledges the farmer’s role in managing the forest and tree planting.

Entry is open to woodland-related community based projects for the Community Woodland Award. It is designed to encourage and reward schemes involving communal ownership and management of forest or woodlands, which have been established in a sustainable way.

Winners of the three categories will receive €2,000 each and an RDS silver medal. The runners-up will receive €1,000 each and an RDS certificate of merit.

Entries must be submitted on or before Tuesday 10 August 2021. Short-list entries may receive a

judges visit to inspect between August and October.
