Glambia cheese plant given green light after leave to appeal rejected

The High Court has rejected An Taisce’s application for leave to appeal the planning decision that allows Glambia to build a cheese factory.

Glambia welcomed the decision and said it remains committed to delivering the cheese production plant in Co Kilkenny in a timely manner.

The project has now been given the go ahead by Kilkenny County Council, An Bord Pleanála and the High Court.

An Taisce and the National Trust for Ireland had brought the High Court challenge claiming the environmental effects of the milk needed for the cheese plant were not properly considered in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

Dismissing the case, Mr Justice Humphreys said: “The reason the applicant isn’t succeeding here is not because this procedure could be questioned but because the application hasn’t met the existing tests for the procedure.”

Irish Farmers Association president Tim Cullinan, said the process had found everything is in order.

“The decision not to allow a further hearing of An Taisce’s objection to the Glambia cheese plant is the fourth time to project has been upheld,” he added.
