New Irish €40m BEEP-S scheme opens for applications

Applications open today (Tuesday 16 March) for the Beef Environmental Efficiency Programme – Suckler (BEEP-S) which has a funding provision of €40 million.

The scheme targets the weaning efficiency of suckler cows and calves by measuring the live weigh of the calf at weaning as a percentage of the cow’s live weight.

Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue said the BEEP-S is the latest in a line of support he has rolled out for suckler and beef farmers: “This is a crucial schemed for driving efficiency gains in our world class suckler herd while also delivering an income boost for suckler farmers.”

BEEP-S participants may be eligible for up to €90 for the first 10 suckler cow/calf pairs per herd and up to €80 per pair thereafter, subject to an overall maximum of 100 pairs per herd.

“I am committed to the continued support of our suckler and beef sectors. Our farmers continue to produce a top-class product and the suckler cow helps generate balanced regional economic development,” Minister McConalogue added.

Applications close on Monday 26 April and can be made through AgFood.i.e.
