Board facilitates opening of €40m meat plant

The number of animals to be slaughtered at a new meat plant at Banagher, Co Offaly, is estimated at 36,000 per annum. This is as An Bord Pleanala granted planning permission for the contentious €40m Chinese-backed processing plant. IFA Dairy chairman Stephen Arthur says processors must step up with a meaningful price increase for May milk if they do not wish to see supply fall further in the second half of the year.
