Tom Slattery, aka The Irish Farmer, is one of the most prolific social media users in Ireland’s farming community. He posts videos every Wednesday, sometimes Friday and always Sunday – except when he takes time off on a bank holiday weekend to let his hair down and have some fun!
He uses a Go Pro Hero 5 and Go Pro Hero 8 plus a DJI MAVIC 2 drone to share news about activity on his dairy and beef farm in Dingle, in the heart of west Kerry, southwest Ireland.
He’s been farming full-time since he was 19 years old and is also an artificial insemination technician. Slattery says he loves his job, and where he lives, which he showcases in his videos.

His latest batch of videos shows him trimming all his calves’ tails before letting them into the outfarm, making hay while the sun shines, how he grazes his dairy cows (pictured) and how he grows grass for them. The latest one reveals the action when his bull sees cows for the first time this year. “I wouldn’t recommend standing this close to a bull sometimes,” he says, as he pans his camera around the yard. “But he’s very quiet.”
Henry, the bull, is in his third season with The Irish Farmer and doing fairly well, he says. He is their first Hereford bull and has grown a lot this year. The Angus bulls get fairly aggressive whereas the Irish Hereford bulls are the quietest you can have on the farm. “They’re lazier, if that makes sense,” says Slattery. Hereford bulls are used as terminal sires on continental cross cows in commercial beef herds to provide earlier maturity and improve beef eating quality.
