Book for Richard Malone on ‘Giacometti: From Life’

Giacometti From Life

The National Gallery of Ireland will host artist-in-residence Richard Malone as he shares his perspective on ‘Giacometti: From Life’ in the Millennium Wing Studio on 23 June, 2022 from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

He is part of the public programme for the gallery’s summer exhibition of the same name.

The Irish artist and fashion designer will also speak about his inspirational career, his dynamic art practice, and his ambitions for ‘Giacometti: From Life’.

During his residency, Malone will explore Giacometti: From Life and create a contemporary response to the artist’s life and work. From 7 June until 31 July, he will be onsite in the education studio directly opposite the exhibition space, and from 1 August to 4 September, the outcome of the residency will be displayed in the studio.

More than 50 works by Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966) are displayed in the first exhibition of the artist’s work held at the National Gallery of Ireland. These include bronze and plaster sculptures, paintings, drawings, and prints. The artworks date from Giacometti’s early years in his native Switzerland through to the late work he made in his Paris studio. The exhibition highlights the artist’s close working relationships with family members and friends who modelled for him. Among them, his brother Diego, wife Annette, and writers and artists such as Simone de Beauvoir, Isaku Yanaihara and Eli Lotar.

The exhibition closes on 4 September, 2022. Entrance is free, but ticketed. The exhibition is co-organised by the National Gallery of Ireland and the Fondation Giacometti. Arthaus Hotel is the Giacometti Artist Residency accommodation partner.
