Every Thursday evening, Gort Mart transforms into a hub of activity. At precisely 5.30pm, Ring1 comes alive with the sounds of calves, heifers, and sucklers. These animals, each with their unique characteristics, are a testament to the region’s rich farming heritage.
Just a half-hour later, at 6.00pm, Ring2 takes centre stage, showcasing bullocks, weanling bulls, and dry cows. The meticulous organisation ensures that buyers and sellers have a seamless experience.
For those keen on getting their stock in prime position, the drop-off time is between 1.30pm and 4.00pm. And if you’re in the market to buy or just want to witness the grandeur of the livestock, the viewing time is set from 4.00pm to 5.30pm.
Special Autumn Born Weanling Shows & Sales
August promises to be a month of special sales. On Thursday, 17th August, the Belgian Blue breed will be the star of the show. A week later, on the 24th, Limousin enthusiasts will have their day. And to round off the month, Thursday, 31st August will see Charolais and other breeds taking the spotlight. These shows not only offer a chance to buy and sell but also to appreciate the beauty and diversity of these breeds.
Sheep Sales: Wednesday Mornings
But it’s not just about cattle. Every Wednesday morning at 11.15am, the mart resonates with the bleats of sheep. On the 16th of August, there’s a special show and sale dedicated to breeding and cull ewes & hoggets. The following Wednesday, the 23rd, will focus on store, factory, ewe, and butcher lambs.
