Ireland Weather Forecast: Wet Days Ahead with Rain and Showers

Ireland is set to experience a mix of sunny spells and showers in the coming days, as the nation gears up for a wet and varied week.

Sunday, 7th May

Today, Sunday, May 7th, the Emerald Isle is expected to start off dry with sunshine making an appearance early in the day. However, the weather will take a turn in the afternoon as clouds gather, bringing light rain or drizzle along the western coast. As the day progresses, the rain will become more widespread and persistent, spreading eastwards across the country. Temperatures will range between a pleasant 16 to 19 degrees Celsius, with moderate to occasionally fresh southerly breezes providing some relief.

The night will see no respite from the wet weather, with widespread rain persisting, turning heavy at times. The showers are expected to clear by morning, as temperatures dip to a mild 11 to 13 degrees Celsius in a light to moderate southerly breeze.

Monday, 8th May

Monday, May 8th, will start with a mix of showers and sunny spells in the morning, becoming frequent and widespread in the afternoon. By early evening, heavier showers and thunderstorms are predicted in the eastern regions, with the possibility of isolated squalls. Temperature-wise, the west can expect highs of around 15 degrees Celsius, while the east will see warmer temperatures reaching up to 20 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a moderate south to southwest breeze.

The national outlook for the week ahead shows showers becoming more isolated on Monday night, primarily affecting western areas, with lows of 8 to 10 degrees Celsius and a light southwesterly breeze. Tuesday will see a combination of sunny spells and showers, some turning heavy in the afternoon. The day will become cloudier later, with rain arriving along the west coast and highs of 14 to 16 degrees Celsius in a light to moderate southwesterly wind.

Tuesday, 9th May and Wednesday,10th May

Tuesday night will be mostly cloudy, with outbreaks of rain extending eastwards and temperatures dropping to 6 to 9 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a light to moderate southwest to west wind. Wednesday will see rain clearing to showers, with highs of 14 or 15 degrees Celsius and a moderate to fresh westerly breeze.

Thursday, 11th May

Sunshine and showers are once again on the cards for Thursday, as winds shift to a northwesterly direction. The highest temperatures will hover between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius in moderate to fresh northwest winds.

Friday, 12th May and Saturday 13th May

As the week draws to a close, current indications suggest that Friday will be mainly dry with some sunshine, while a spell of rain is expected on Saturday.
