Group Property Director of GVM Auctioneers, Tom Crosse, comments that farmland continues to sell well. “Land is very good, while residential is slowing down a little bit, but it’s still relatively good.”
Current selling and buying trends that he observes are that, “Dairy farmers are having a very good year so they’re getting very good prices for their milk, so that’s putting them in a strong position to bid. We’ve noticed a return in the business community back buying land as well as investment, and also availing of long leases and tax-free rental income. Albeit at a low level, but it’s a very safe asset type and asset class.”
“This time of the year, springtime and autumn are a big time for selling farms. Traditionally land sales get busy in the spring and in the autumn,” he says.
In terms of the ease of bidding online he notes that, “it’s helping, and obviously it was more prevalent during Covid with people restricted. I think people still like to present themselves at auctions, but obviously If people want to remain anonymous, or professionals that are busy otherwise can’t make a sale the online system works well.”
GVM Auctioneers have various great properties for sale on LSL Auctions this month. One highlight he singles out is a superb circa 98 st acre farm in Clonoul, Croagh, Co Limerick (Live Auction 29/09/2022).
“This is a very good location close to the picturesque village of Adare. It’s a very strong agricultural hinterland, in a very rich farming location, as in a lot of good dairy farmers in the vicinity – so I’m expecting people to have a lot of interest.”
