The Sheep Ireland Breeding Conference and Farm Walk held on 12 July, 2022, included the announcement of the FBD LambPlus Awards.
At the ceremony, Sheep Ireland acknowledged the hard work and dedication of farmers across Ireland to improve the genetics of their herds and flocks, not just for themselves but for their customers and the broader industry.
Two awards were presented – one for the “Highest Achieving LambPlus Flock 2022” and one for the “Most Improved LambPlus Flock 2022”. The event was very well attended with a great mix of people from all sectors of the Irish agricultural industry as well as from abroad.
Liam and Eoin Dunne of Belclares, Tubber, won the Highest Achieving LambPlus flock award. Christy, Liam and Eoin Dunne received a cash prize of €1000, an engraved trophy, certificate and bragging rights for the year ahead.
The two other finalists, Sarah and Michael O’Neill and Liam Delaney received a cash prize of €500 and an engraved award and certificate.
FBD kindly sponsored these LambPlus awards.
Flocks were selected based on a number of criteria including the genetic merit of the flock based on the Replacement and Terminal Index, the DQI of the flock and the accuracy of the breeding values within the flock. These awards acknowledge the effort and contribution that these breeders make to the national sheep industry.
