The Town and Village Scheme is one of a series of national and local support measures designed to rejuvenate small rural towns and villages throughout Ireland, under the Department of Rural & Community Development’s Rural Development Investment Programme.
Since its launch in 2016, over €113 million of funding has been approved for more than 1,400 projects across Ireland. The Scheme is managed on behalf of the Rural and Community Development Department by the local authorities and funded under Project Ireland 2040. The Scheme is targeted at towns and villages with a population of 10,000 or less and all projects funded under the Scheme must be completed within a 12- to 18-month period.
The New Building Acquisition Measure for 2022 deadline for applications is 24 June, 2022. In recognition of the urgent need to transform and regenerate town centres, a new measure to immediately acquire derelict or vacant buildings, with the intention of using these projects for town regeneration purposes, is being introduced for 2022. Local authorities can apply for up to €400,000 for up to two buildings.
The 2022 Town and Village Renewal Scheme will place particular emphasis on projects addressing vacancy and dereliction as outlined in Our Rural Future – Rural Development Policy 2021-2025. The scheme will also prioritise the regeneration of town centres, parks and green spaces, and remote working. The Scheme will support these objectives and will encourage more people to return confidently to town and village centres to work, shop and socialise.
The minimum grant available is €20,000. The maximum grant available is €500,000.
The 2022 Town and Village Renewal Scheme deadline for applications is 22 July, 2022. Expressions of interest should be submitted through your local authority.
