Reduction of emissions focus of Committee talks

The reduction of emissions in the agricultural sector is a topic of vital importance in the global setting. Due to this the Committees on Agriculture and Climate Action held a joint meeting earlier this week to discuss this topic and the results thereof. In an effort to adhere to the commitments posed, Cathaoirleach of the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Deputy, Jackie Cahill welcomed the meeting, saying that it provided them with an opportunity to meet with colleagues on the Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action to discuss this important issue.

Topics on the agenda included modern advances in technology as a catalyst for decreasing emissions. According to representative from Moonsyst, livestock comfort company Easyfix and Paul R Price, research assistant at Dublin City University (DCU) participated in the meeting. Cathaoirleach of the Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action, Deputy Brian Leddin says that the Irish agriculture is in a transition to move to a less carbon-intense system. He adds that this will require diversification, while also providing opportunities.

“We are looking forward to exploring these opportunities in conjunction with the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine in this first collaboration between our two committees,” Deputy Leddin says.
