Decline in number of registered tractors, according to CSO

There has been a decrease in the number of new tractors licensed for the month of February compared to the same period last year. Figures released by the Central Statistics Office indicate that 232 new tractors were licensed for the month of February 2022, with a decrease of eight units compared to the same period in 2021.

This brings the total amount of new tractors registered for the first two months of this year, to 484 overall. The figure stood at almost 500 for the same period last year.

The amount of used or imported tractors licensed for February 2021 was reported at 366 according to the CSO, while the figure for 2022 is at 233 indicating a significant decline in numbers. 193 such vehicles were licensed during the month of January, meaning that 426 units were registered in the first two months of the year. The figures show a steady decline in number as 733 used or imported tractors were licensed for the first time in the first two months of 2021.

While there was a decline in the number of tractors licensed the number of privately owned vehicles increased by 17% as the figure was reported to be at 3,929 for used or imported private cars being registered, according to the CSO.

As interest in the electric and plug-in hybrid cars continues to grow, CSO figures show that over a fifth of all new licensed cars for the first two months of the year were electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).
