Covid numbers cause farmer rally to be scaled back

A rally being organised by the Irish Farmers Association (IFA), will be scaled back due to the growing number of Covid-19 cases.

Plans had been for farmers and their families to gather at 11am in Merrion Square in Dublin, with the purpose campaigning to “Save Irish Farming”.

The demonstration is still planned to take place on Sunday (November 21) with support from Macra na Feirme.

John Keane, president of Macra na Feirme, has called on its members to support the farmer rally to highlight that “young farmers are the future of our agricultural and food production industry.”

Now the IFA and Macra na Feirme are holding meetings to determine the way forward with the rising numbers of Covid cases.

It is understood that rather than a large gathering of people the rally may be limited to only tractors instead.
