HSE concerned about safety following four farm deaths in a fortnight

The farming industry has been called on to make safety a priority after four fatalities in two weeks.

This follows four fatal accidents between 27 July and 10 August, which the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been made aware and police are investigating.

At a farm in Angus, Scotland a man appears to have died after falling from a height. A three year old boy died on a farm in Wales after a collision with a vehicle.

In Hampshire a man died in a crushing incident involving a ramp from from a truck at a farm; and a suspected cattle-trampling in Marshfield.

Avon and Somerset Police were called after a man was found with fatal injuries after being attacked by cattle in a field.

These incidents come just three weeks after Farm Safety Week, when the HSE issued its 2020/1 report highlighting the high fatality rate in the UK industry.

Figures showed that agriculture has the worst rate of fatal injuries of all the major industrial sectors, around 20 times higher than the average five-year annual rate across all industries.
