Poultry and pig farmers in Northern Ireland are being offered £4 million in Government support after they saw their income drop in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The scheme, which will pay farmers 80 per cent of the losses they incurred, is available to pig farmers who supplied pigs to Cranswick Country Foods between 4 September and 7 November 2020.
In August 2020, Cranswick Country Foods had an outbreak of coronavirus and production had to be stopped for a fortnight. During this time around 130 pig producers suffered significant losses.
Poultry farmers will also be supported after they suffered market disruption between 23 March and 31 January 2021.
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) will contact eligible farmers this week to invite them to apply for the support package.
Online applications must be completed by 24 March.
