First Chair in Animal Welfare and Veterinary Ethics Appointed at UCD

Dr Siobhan Mullan has been appointed as the first Chair of Animal Welfare and Veterinary Ethics at the University of Dublin School of Veterinary Medicine.

The new position is supported by the Department of Agriculture and will focus on farm animal welfare and ethical considerations. 

Dr Mullan joins UCD from the University of Bristol and her appointment follows the launch of Ireland’s first dedicated Animal Welfare Strategy, last week. 

Speaking about her new role, Dr Mullan said: “I hope to continue the outstanding quality of research that UCD is know for and conduct studies in animal welfare, sustainable agriculture and veterinary ethics to inform policy that will have a positive impact on society.”
