Dairy Farmers Praised by Minister For Dedication and High Standards

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine has paid tribute to dairy farmers for their dedication and high standards.

In a letter to dairy farmers around the country, Minister Charlie McConalogue thanked them for their “continued dedication to excellence” in producing the “highest quality milk while ensuring the strictest standards of animal welfare.”

Minister McConalogue told dairy farmers: “You make the decisions upon which the whole industry is built. You have huge responsibilities and huge opportunities, and I am committed to supporting you in making 2021 a successful year.”

High welfare standards are also crucial in maintaining consumer trust said Mr McConalogue as it forms the foundation of Ireland’s national and international markets.

“Where farmers ensure good animal welfare, everyone wins. Healthy, happy animals are more productive and are more resistant to disease, requiring fewer vet visits and fewer antibiotics,” he said.

The Minister acknowledged that many farmers are currently working under intense workloads and added: “Farms can be pressurised environments during these times. I am urging you to not only mind your herd’s health but also your own health and welfare.”
