Farmers Urgently Needed to Help Raise Funds For Midlands Hospice

The farming community is being asked to help raise funds for a Level 3 Hospice in the midlands.

Hooves4Hospice is community based initiative – supported by LSL Auctions – launched to build a much needed hospice in the midland counties of Westmeath, Offaly, Longford and Laois.

The project involves recruiting a large number of farmers willing to rear or donate a young animal to be sold at auction and raise money for the planned midlands hospice that will provide specialist end of life care and support for people.

The midlands is the only region in Ireland that does not have a palliative care hospice. The cost of the project is €15 million to build the 16 bed hospice next to Tullamore Hospital. Once the hospice is built the HSE has committed cover the annual running costs.

Hooves4Hospice, created by the Tullamore Lions Club, is reaching out to the farming community to ask for help with their charitable efforts. Farmers can also support in other ways: with donations, business sponsorship, providing funds to purchase young animals or transporting young animals to host farmers.

There are more than 420 young animals are being reared by farmers participating in the project.
