Domestic milk intake for November increases by 8.9%

Domestic milk intake by creameries and pasteurisers grew by 8.9% in November 2020 compared to the same month in the previous year.

The latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) estimates the monthly milk intake at 455.2 million litres for November 2020.

During the period January to November 2020, domestic milk intake was estimated at 8.041 billion litres, an increase of 3.8% from 7,744 billion litres when compared to the corresponding month in 2019.

Contrasting the November 2020 milk produce figures with those for November 2019 shows that butter production increased by 18.3% to 17,870 tonnes. Cheese production also marginally grew from 20,000 tonnes to 23,500 tonnes. Meanwhile, milk for human consumption decreased from 43,7 million litres to 39.9 million litres.

The monthly milk and milk products data analyses whole milk purchased by creameries and pasteurisers from domestic producers through collection depots and separating stations. The fat content of the whole milk is also collected.
