New housing report punts vacant homes tax
An Oireachtas Joint Committee on Housing report into urban regeneration to be published today (Tuesday, 24 May, 2022) recommends that Government consider a vacant homes tax. The report also states that the imminent zoned land tax should be increased by more than 3%. Housing Agency to use surveyors to assess buildings for housing
Surveyors will now be tasked with making recommendations to the Housing Agency on the suitability of commercial buildings for repurposing as homes. This comes as the agency plans to hire consultants to advise local authorities whether commercial properties, large homes and hospitality buildings such as hotels and B&Bs can be used for social housing.
