Alternative fertilisers risky for dairy farmers
Alternative fertilisers are a risk option for farmers wanting to offset the expense of artificial fertilisers. According to Glanbia, organic fertilisers such as untreated slurry or farmyard manure might be appealing but they can expose dairy farms to disease. Nitrates Derogation applications extended, says DAFM 
The deadline for applying for Nitrates Derogation has been extended, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has announced. The derogation allows more intensive farmers to operate at a higher stocking rate than stipulated in the Nitrates Directive.
