Cabinet approves support package for pig sector 
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has confirmed that cabinet has approved a €15.8 million support package for the pig sector. Farmers have been urged to make plenty of high quality silage over the coming weeks. Lakeland Dairies reports a 20% revenue increase  
Lakeland Dairies has reported a revenue increase of 20% to €1.3 billion as it published its annual results for 2021. The increase was seen across the processor’s four operating divisions namely:  Food ingredients Foodservice Consumer Foods Agribusiness  According to the results, group revenues rose by €217.7 million from the 2020 figure of almost €1.1 billion. Nitrates Derogation applications extended, says DAFM 
The deadline for applying for Nitrates Derogation has been extended, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has announced. The derogation allows more intensive farmers to operate at a higher stocking rate than stipulated in the Nitrates Directive. Higher reference costs will now apply to all applications made under the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS). A new survey indicates that rental prices are expected to increase by 10%, while land prices are set to rise by an average of 6% for 2022.
