Inconsistent beef prices “suspicious” – ICMSA

Beef and spring lamb prices increase – 19 May, 2022
Beef prices have increased 5 to 10c/kg in the past week as demand continues to exceed supply. IFA Livestock chairman Brendan Golden said farmers should shop around – beef prices quoted and paid can differ by up to 20c/kg for all types of cattle. Irish beef prices up post-Brexit

Farmers should sell beef hard in current rising market, says IFA
Demand for beef in Ireland’s key export markets continues to drive the trade, according to IFA Livestock Committee chairman Brendan Golden. In a recent beef update on 13 May, 2022, he said supplies are not meeting demand and factories want cattle for immediate slaughter. NI beef prices for March 2022
The latest figures for Northern Ireland beef prices this month show that factories increased young bull, steer, and cull cow prices but Heifers experienced a slight downturn. Base quotes from NI processors for U-3 grade steers and heifers “strengthened” and ranged from 392-406p/kg.
