A new smart phone based app has been launched to monitor deer in Ireland in the first co-ordinated approach.  Funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and led by University College Dublin (UCD) the study will observe deer distribution and density in Ireland.  The SmartDeer project collects and analysing real-time data relating to the Irish deer population. An Irish farm has stopped the sale of ducklings and goslings after a social media craze where the birds are filmed for videos. Freeway Poultry in Co. Limerick confirmed they have suspended the sale of the animals to the general public. The low number of applications for the Organic Farming Scheme has been described as a “wake-up call” for the sector.
