Fairly mixed with sunny spells and scattered showers, in moderate southerly winds. Temperatures little below average across south Munster and south Leinster with highest temperatures of 13 to 15C, but milder or warmer elsewhere with temperatures of 15 to 19C.  It will be a mostly dry night with clear spells, though it will be cloudier in the west and south with scattered light showers. A €1 billion National Recovery and Resilience Plan will allocate €524 million to climate and biodiversity-led projects. A £2 million support package has been launched for potato farmers affected by Covid-19 in Northern Ireland. During the pandemic the hospitality and food sector had a reduced need for potatoes leaving large quantities of unsold potatoes that would have otherwise been processed. Another very warm day for many on Wednesday, though showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop from the southwest. Drier from Thursday with showers or thunderstorms confined to the southeast. 

Wednesday will be a cloudier day overall with rain developing in the south during the morning and moving northwards through the day, with some heavy and thundery downpours in parts. There is the risk of spot flooding.  Maximum temperatures will range between 15C in Munster to 22C in Ulster, where it will be largely dry until evening with sunshine and moderate to east to southeast winds. 

The odd shower in places on Saturday, otherwise largely dry with increasing amounts of sunshine and turning warmer for most. Rain possible in the far northwest on Monday. 

It will become noticeably warmer over the weekend with spells of sunshine, generally dry too with a little patchy rain or drizzle occurring in places.

DEFRA chiefs have confirmed plans to stop licensing of new intensive badger culls after 2022, despite helping to reduce bTB rates.. Existing cull licenses could be cut short after two years, instead of running for five years, where there is sufficient scientific evidence to support.  The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) said it was “disappointing and frustrating” to see the Government pressing ahead with proposals to abandon badger culling.  NFU deputy…

A plague of mice has spread 1,000km across Australia causing widespread damage to the eastern coast. Farmers are sharing images and videos that have gone viral showing mice carpeting farmlands at night, pouring out of grain feeders and storage plants. Fertiliser sales have grown by 25 per cent despite efforts to reduce usage on farms to combat climate change, according to the latest figures from the Department of Agriculture.
