Guinness drives a barley-growing pilot focused on regenerative agriculture

Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue TD has welcomed a new project by Guinness – a three-year barley-growing pilot with a focus on regenerative agriculture. The farm-based programme will work closely with farmers, looking at ways to reduce carbon emissions from barley production. An annual €18m Sustainability Action Payment has been announced by Glanbia Ireland. This three-year programme hopes to assist the company’s 5,000 milk suppliers to enhance the environmental and economic sustainability of their family farms. Disagreement over ‘demonisation’ of red meat

In a letter to EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski, Minister Charlie McConalogue noted with disappointment that a €170m food promotion programme linked red meat to potential cancer development.
