Buyers in Northern Ireland have been reassured there will be frozen turkeys available this Christmas, despite panic buying in other parts of the UK.
However, local turkey farmers say they have already seen an increase in orders with a people placing orders early.
Co. Down turkey farmer Jeremy Galbraith said usually he takes Christmas orders from October but this year people had been contacting him since August.
“The good news for here in Northern Ireland is that we are a net exporter of food, especially those wonderful things we eat around Christmas time such as turkeys, or sausages or even beef,” said Co. Down turkey farmer Jeremy Galbraith.
“We’re 1.9 million people here. We actually feed about 10 million people so I’m quite certain that we’re very safe here in Northern Ireland”
Meanwhile Marks and Spencer said it would be suspending its Christmas deliveries due to the challenges in the food industry.
Marks and Spencer has blamed post Brexit trading arrangements for costing its business tens of millions of pounds.
