Here at LSL Auctions, we’re delighted to share the results from the highly anticipated Belgian Beltex Breeders Society’s Elite Sale 2023, which showcased some of the most impressive sheep of the year. The spotlight was firmly on Sheephaven Hendrix, the Reserve Champion from Declan Robinson’s renowned Sheephaven Flock in Co. Donegal. This standout specimen reached an exceptional selling price of €4000, equalling the Irish record set earlier this year and demonstrating the ongoing appeal of Ireland’s premier Terminal sire.
In a notable achievement, the overall Champion title was awarded to Hillview Hercules, a superb Shearling Ram from Dermot Goss’s Hillview Flock in County Louth. This award-winning ram was later jointly procured by respected Laois breeders, Alan Cuddy and Keith Murphy.
The Elite Sale, the Society’s first sale of the year, continues to provide pedigree Belgian Beltex breeders with an unrivalled platform to secure high-quality breeding stock early in the season. We were thrilled to observe high sale averages and an exceptional clearance rate of 90%, underscoring the event’s popularity and success.
The esteemed Matthew Burleigh from the illustrious Matt’s Flock in Co. Fermanagh served as judge for the day, meticulously navigating through the high-standard entries from both the Lamb and Shearling Ram classes.
We were pleased to welcome new breeders, the Lynam family from Castletown Geoghegan Co. Westmeath, who made a solid entrance into the market by purchasing John Maher’s Champion Ram Lamb, Ballinakill Jupiter, for €640 and augmenting their new flock with females from Cyril Keane and Thomas Clarke.
The highest-priced female of the day, Hillswood Holly, a Shearling Ewe from Tom Kenny’s flock, was secured by Amy Ryan and Shane O’Brien of Co. Mayo for €760.
