Fools and Dreamers is an imaginistʼs dialogue. Through a wide variety of media, the artist explores his own weird logic, naivety, cliché, sincerity, their own fear of looking stupid, as well as transient specific interests in the world around them. ‘Fools and Dreamers’ eschews precision in favour of a kind of wonky mannerism, where the artistʼs indexical use of colour can take centre stage.
ʻʼI make art because I am optimistic. Dogʼs teeth, disembodied legs, kitchen tiles, plant pots, blue splats and glitter-covered-bunting contest the shining surfaces of my paintings. I smuggle things in and hide away others, always hoping the work will spring something unexpected upon me. I utilise a wide variety of media in an attempt to breach the picture plane and in extension, the dream-like nature of reality. I am playful, and material experimentation allows for the subject of my work to remain emergent. I anticipate my imaginationʼs own agency and let images come forward from the inside out. I make art because I am optimistic.ʼʼ
