Love Lamb week seeks new ambassador from sheep farming sector

An enthusiastic sheep farmer is being sought to front the UK’s Love Lamb Week campaign.

Backed by the National Sheep Association (NSA), Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and National Farmers Union (NFU), the week-long celebration of British lamb, runs from September 1 to 7.

Launched by Cumbrian sheep farmer Rachel Lumley in 2015, the campaign was to designed to boost low lamb prices and domestic consumption.

This year consumers will be reassured of the sustainability of sheep production and the role it plays in maintaining the landscape.

Sadly, Ms Lumley passed away last year and now a farmer is needed to take on her legacy.

“NSA is proud to work alongside the UK levy boards and other industry organisations to support the delivery of Love Lamb Week each year,” said a NSA spokesperson.

NSA said it is looking for a farmer who is happy to share their working life with the British public via social media to help inform and educate on sheep production and its environmental and nutritional credentials.

Anyone interested in putting their name forward is asked to complete an online form and submit a short video explaining their background in sheep farming and why they believe they would be a good spokesperson for the campaign.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over, live and work in the UK, and sheep farming must be their main source of income.
