A Status Yellow snow-ice warning has been issued by Met Éireann for Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal over the weekend.
In the affected counties, snowfalls of 5cm are predicted with strong to gale force southeast winds. Temperatures will continue to rise ranging from 7 to 11C by dawn on Sunday.
The Yellow weather alert comes into effect at 2:00am on Saturday morning and will remain in place until 12:00pm on Saturday.
In Cork, Kerry and Waterford a rainfall warning has been issued from 1:00am on Saturday morning through to 12:00pm the same day.
There is a risk of river and coastal flooding with round 30 to 40mm of rainfall expected in these counties with strong to gale force onshore southeast winds.
Sunday looks set to be a wet and very windy day with spells of heavy rain and gale force southerly winds. A risk f flooding in the south. Mild temperatures with highs of 10 to 13C. Rain will clear northeastwards by the evening with scattered outbreaks of rain returning overnight. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9C in fresh southerly winds.
A yellow alert has also been issued by the UK Met Office for all six counties in Northern Ireland. The warning will come into effect from 12:00am on Saturday through to 11:59pm on Saturday night.
The Met Office says that, for Norther Ireland, snow is likely to spread east during Saturday with some accumulations in places and icy stretches.
