Mart sales will continue online after Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed that ‘Level 5’ Covid-19 restrictions will be extended to 5 April.
Mart sales can only be held online under Level 5 and the bidding process takes place online. Arrangements can be made for marts to facilitate the weighing of animals; the matching of stock between buyers and sellers; dropping-off of animals; and buyer inspection of stock in pens.
This extension will also apply to the agriculture sector. Under the restrictions the following are some of the activities that are deemed essential services: farming; farming labour; horticulture, forestry and mart sales.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 support payments and measures have been extended until 30 June.
