Met Eireann said a yellow rain and snow warning remains in place for parts of Ireland for the rest of the week.
Temperatures are predicted to drop to -3C and the weather centre has warned of drastic big changes with wintry weather taking over across the country by the weekend.
Today (Tuesday 2 February) there will be some sunny spells but widespread heavy showers with the risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms. It will be cold across Ulster with highest temperatures of 3 to 7C, but it will be a milder 8 to 11C elsewhere. Breezy across the southern half of Ireland with moderate to fresh southwest winds, but with lighter cyclonic variable breezes.
Tonight brings blustery showers with longer spells of rain and a risk of hail and thunder. It will become drier later with showery rain mainly confined to the north. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5C, with light to moderate southwest or variable breezes.
Thursday and Friday will be hit with more wintry weather with showers becoming mostly confined to coastal counties and temperatures dropping below 0C on Saturday morning.
