Nominations for the Farming For Nature Ambassador Awards close on Sunday (January 24) at midnight.
More than 200 professionals working in farmland biodiversity across Ireland are invited to nominate a farmer who they think is worthy of recognition for their work in supporting nature on their farm and in their community.
Nominations are being sought from organisations including: the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Heritage Council, Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine, the National Biodiversity Data Centre, Teagasc, the National Rural Network and the Organic Trust.
The awards are for farmers who: farm at least one hectare and produce agricultural product for sale; have made a significant contribution to the protection or enhancement of nature on their farm; and are farming in a progressive agricultural, economic or social way.
Farmer who would like to be nominated can contact their local farm advisor or county Heritage Officer or local wildlife ranger to visit their farm and make a nomination.
Nominations for 2021 opened on January 1 and close on January 24. Nominations can be made online and emailed to [email protected] or by post by the closing date to Farming For Nature, Burrenbeo Trust, Glebe House, Kinvara, Co. Galway.
All nominations will be reviewed and assessed in line with the criteria and a shortlist of at least 10 farms will be complied. A short film will be made of the farms shortlisted and there will be an online voting system so the public can vote for their overall favourite.
Each ambassador will receive a cash prize to acknowledge their contribution to nature on their farms. Ambassadors will share their knowledge and passion for nature with others
