There has been a rise in the number of tractors and self-propelled machinery registered, according to the latest figures released by the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association.
In December the number of new tractors registered grew significantly compared with the same month in 2019 with 26 units registered, more than double the12 units registered a year previously.
Overall, the total annual registrations in 2020 was 1,910 units, which was 3% lower than 2019, which the FTMTA described as “a credible performance by any measure.”
Cork had the highest number of registrations during 2020 with 262 units, followed by Wexford and Tipperary with 130 units each. Meath registered 109 units and Galway 100 units.
The most popular registrations in 2020 were in the 101 to 120hp range which made up nearly 32% with 603 units. During the year 87% of all tractors registered had over 100hp.
Used imported tractors continued to demonstrate a strong performance in 2020 with 387 units registered during December. The FTMTA said it believed the exceptional level of activity may have been driven by concerns about sourcing used machines post Brexit. A total of 3,010 used imported tractors were registered during 2020.
Wheeled loader registrations saw a good performance throughout 2020 with 8 units registered in December, up from 5 units in 2019.
